The .SE country-code top-level domain was launched in 1986 and assigned to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration procedure was quite restrictive, so a very low number of domains were registered. Individuals were permitted to grab solely one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was mandatory, i.e. only Swedish persons, business entities and organizations were able to order a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened significantly and, as a result, the number of .SE domains has been mounting each year.
